3 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Realtor to Sell Your Home

If I were hiring a Realtor to sell my own home, there are three questions I would ask before signing anything.

And surprisingly, "What do you charge?" wouldn't be one of them.

Selling a home is a major financial decision. The Realtor you choose can influence everything from pricing and marketing to negotiations and how smoothly you make it to the closing table.

As a Realtor working throughout Wesley Chapel, Lutz, Land O' Lakes, New Tampa, Odessa, Zephyrhills and the greater Tampa Bay area, these are three questions I believe every seller should ask.

1. How Many Transactions Do You Average Each Month?

An experienced Realtor should know their numbers.

But this question isn't only about production. It tells you how frequently an agent is actively negotiating, solving problems and navigating today's real estate market.

Markets change. Inventory changes. Buyer expectations change. New construction incentives change.

I would want an agent who isn't relying on what worked a few years ago. I want someone who is actively working in the current market and negotiating transactions regularly.

2. What Sets You Apart From Other Realtors?

Putting a home in the MLS, installing a sign and scheduling professional photography are important—but that's not a complete strategy.

I would want to know:

  • How will you position my home against the competition?

  • What is your marketing strategy?

  • How will you communicate with me?

  • What happens when you're tied up and I need something?

  • How do you approach negotiations when an offer comes in?

For my sellers, I believe in providing a one-on-one experience backed by the systems and support necessary to keep things moving.

My job isn't simply to get your home listed. It's to understand the market, develop the right strategy for your property, negotiate from a position of knowledge and protect your interests all the way through closing.

3. Tell Me Something About Yourself I Can't Find Online

This might be my favorite question.

You can read reviews, look at an agent's sales, scroll through social media and visit their website. But none of those things necessarily tell you what it will actually feel like to work with that person.

Selling a home is business, but it's also personal. You're trusting someone to help navigate the sale of what may be one of your largest assets.

Experience matters. Strategy matters. But chemistry and trust matter too.

I want to know who I'm working with—not just what their professional bio says.

What Should You Look for When Choosing a Realtor?

Don't interview Realtors based solely on what they charge.

Interview them based on what they bring to the table.

Look for current market experience, local knowledge, communication, marketing strategy, negotiation skills, availability and someone you genuinely trust to represent your interests.

When someone chooses me to sell their home, I take that responsibility seriously. I bring active Tampa Bay market experience, a strategy specific to the property, strong negotiation, consistent communication and personal attention from beginning to end.

My experience with both resale and new construction is also important in growing markets like Wesley Chapel and Land O' Lakes, where resale sellers may be competing directly with builders offering incentives.

Understanding that competition is part of determining the right pricing, positioning and marketing strategy for a home.

Looking for a Realtor in Wesley Chapel or Tampa Bay?

I help buyers and sellers throughout Wesley Chapel, Lutz, Land O' Lakes, New Tampa, Odessa, Zephyrhills, Dade City and surrounding Tampa Bay communities.

You don't have to be ready to list tomorrow to start the conversation. If you're considering selling, I'm always happy to talk through your home's value, what's happening in your local market and what a successful selling strategy could look like.

That's the kind of Realtor I would hire to sell my own home—and it's the standard I hold myself to when selling yours.

If you're interviewing Realtors, ask me the three questions. I'd love the opportunity to show you what I bring to the table.
